I began my pottery practice when I was in high school. My teacher Jake Rodenkrik has been my biggest support throughout my ceramics career, encouraging me to pursue art and helping me find my footing as a teacher.
I received my Art Education degree with a focus in ceramics at Cal Poly Humboldt where I learned about different alternative firing processes. I spent a majority of my time in the ceramics department burnishing and pit firing my work, smoking up the studio. It has always brought me a sense of relief, the way this process forces me to relinquish control. The past ten years have been a practice of perfecting, refining, and polishing—but, the fire will always do what it wants in the end. This is what keeps me motivated as an artist.
As a teacher I feel impassioned by sharing my love for clay, and my drive for refinement. I teach at varying pottery studios in the Bay Area where I have the pleasure of connecting with community who are just as stoked about clay as I am. My teaching philosophy is adaptable, adjusting to every class I’m in depending on the student’s wants and skill levels. If you’re intrigued, come take a class with me !
